I learned to play chess at six from my dad and entered my first rated event at eleven. I had a voracious appetite for chess during my teen years and studied constantly averaging three hours a day. While living in Chicago, IL I started a chess club at Kenwood Academy in 1983 and we took 2nd place in the city championship. In my senior year in highschool I ran my first junior chess tournament to raise money for the chess club attracting over 50 students (and it was by hand before chess programs did everything!).
The highlight of my chess career came in 1986 when I played in the U.S. Junior Open championship and took 1st place age 17; my score was 5 1/2 - 1 1/2.
In 1996, I was board 4 for my team at the U.S. Amateur Team Championship West and we took first place; my score was 5 1/2 - 1/2.
Currently on the USCF top-100 Correspondence list with a certified Master rating in postal chess. (At one point had an unofficial rating of 2500!)
Recently, I came in first at the Pacific Coast Open for the U1900 section my biggest pay day to date and achieved my highest rating!
Other highlights: defeated IM Silman in a simul; on ICC have defeated IM Pap in a simul and drew IM Milanovic in another.
