We will be compiling a chronological history of the Bakersfield Chess Club. Unfortunately, very little is known about the club's early days at this time. Anyone with any information whatsoever is asked to please contact us. Thank you.

1949, September George Croy won the California State Championship. Irving Rivise took 2nd. The Open Minor Tournament was won by Phil Smith of Bakersfield. The event has held in Atascadero.

1966-1971, Dale Baker was the Bakersfield Chess Club Champion.

1967, the Ernest Shields Open in Bakersfield, was won by Walter Browne (2367).

1968, Charles Henin (2219) won the Ernest Shields Open, held in Bakersfield.

1976-1978,Periodical Published entitled CHESS BRIEFS(Published in Bakersfield)
